Neighborhoods
The Boise River is the dividing line between the north and south areas of the city. Along both banks of the river you will find commercial, corporate and residential areas mingled together to form discrete communities.
Boise State University makes its home along the southern banks of the river between Capital Boulevard on the west and Broadway on the east. The campus welcomes more than 20,000 students each year and is home to the Boise State Broncos football team. Bronco stadium is known around the country for its trademark blue turf. Boise State University also hosts the Morrison Center, a performing arts center and auditorium where students and residents come to enjoy concerts, theatrical performances, and distinguished lecturers throughout the year.
Also part of South Boise is an area called “the Boise Bench.” As the name suggests, the area sits on a plateau elevated above the city center, giving rise to spectacular rim views of the downtown skyline and the mountains that border Boise to the north. One of Boise’s more established areas, you can find many 1950s-era homes on large parcels among newer home developments. Ann Morrison Park and Kathryn Albertson Park are both located just below the rim of the Bench adjacent to the Boise River and to one another. These two parks are home to many of the city’s outdoor events and activities, including the annual Art in the Park, concerts and performances, festivals and every day recreational activities.
The Bench stretches into both Southeast Boise and the western part of the city along the edge of Garden City’s borders, where it is home to a large division of Hewlett Packard and the many communities that comprise West Boise
