Neighborhoods
One of the fastest growing cities in the northwest, Meridian today is the third largest city in Idaho. Its growing population has transformed the city from its original farmland into the vibrant city it is today. On Meridian’s main street you can find local businesses, shops and a sense of neighborliness characteristic of its rural past. The short 10-mile commute to downtown Boise has made Meridian a popular place to call home. As Meridian grows, so do the number of community amenities that it offers. Roaring Springs Water Park and the adjacent Wahooz Fun Zone provide family-friendly entertainment close to home with pools, waterslides, arcade games, go-carts and laser tag, among other activities.
St. Luke’s Hospital Meridian located on the edge of the city in 2001 and offers 24-hour emergency care diagnostic procedures, inpatient and outpatient services. Blue Cross of Idaho has a large headquarters near the hospital, and many medically specialty offices are opening to more conveniently serve the westward moving population.
Slightly more populated than Star, Kuna boasts nearly 13,000 residents within its borders. Once the end of the line for a railroad system that passed through Boise, Kuna has evolved from a farming community into a suburban bedroom community for Boise and has one of the highest growth rates in the state.
Kuna is a gateway to one of the Treasure Valley’s gems—the Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area, which was established by Congress in 1993 to protect the largest concentration of these birds in North America. The area includes 485,000 acres and stretches along 81 miles of the Snake River Canyon whose walls rise up to 600 feet high above the canyon floor. The portion of the Snake River that runs through this area creates opportunities for camping, fishing, boating, and floating during the long summer season.
